SLU Math Team Has Strong ShowingSLU teams take 6th and 8th place at the Missouri Collegiate Mathematics Competition. The Missouri Collegiate Mathematics Competition is a problem solving competition for Missouri undergraduates. Each school is allowed to send up to two teams of three students, and this year's competition featured 30 teams from 15 Missouri universities. The contest consists of two 2.5 hour sessions in which students try to solve five challenging mathematics problems. SLU sent two teams:
which finished 6th and 8th in the state, respectively. This is SLU's second best strongest showing in the competition's history, and the best since 2005. You can see the contest problems and more information about the contest at the contest home page. If you are interested in trying out for the team next year, contact Dr. Clair (bryan@slu.edu). You might also consider enrolling in Math 269: Mathematical Problem Solving this Fall, a one unit P/NP course taught by Dr. Marks, or some of the other competitions in the department.
